IMPORTANT MESSAGES FROM SEVERAL OF
OUR DIOCESAN OFFICES
*******
FROM THE STEWARDSHIP OFFICE:
Bishop Marc Wants to Thank You
There is indeed something satisfying about knowing that
you have planned and put into place a gift that will one
day accomplish much good.
Do you know how many people in our diocese have
remembered the church in their will or estate plan? There
are more than 500! Perhaps you are among them. If you
are, our new bishop, the Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus, invites
you to a celebration at Grace Cathedral on Sunday
afternoon, October 1. Bishop Marc wants to personally
thank you for this splendid act of stewardship.
If you have not yet let us know that you have included
your parish or other ministry in your will or estate plan,
please call (415) 869-7811 today so that we may send you
an invitation to
The Bishop's Society reception, at 3
p.m. on October 1
.
For suggestions on ways to remember your congregation
in your estate plan that are the easiest and quickest or can
provide you with increased income, visit
If you are already a member of your congregation's legacy
society, then you automatically qualify for membership in
The Bishop's Society. Your name will be added to the
permanent plaque in the Cathedral, and you will be
invited to future Bishop's Society events. When you
remember the church as well as your family in your will
or trust - or as a percentage beneficiary of your retirement
plan - you will find a sense of satisfaction and your faith
and values will live on.

: Fall 2006 Jail and Prison
Ministries Symposium
Saturday, October 14, 2006
8:30am 12:00pm at Easton Hall Conference Center
Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP)
2451 Ridge Road, Berkeley
Continental breakfast will be provided.
Episcopal Charities is hosting its second annual
symposium for Jail and Prison Ministries at Church
Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley on October 14.
In
Changing Faces,
a panel of ex-inmates who were
serving life sentences at Solano and San Quentin prisons
will explore with us how their lives were changed by
participating in the Victim-Offender Reconciliation
Group (VORG) program. They will share their intimate
stories of facing their crimes and their victims and of
giving back to the community.
The Rev. James Tramel of St. Albans in Albany, who
participated in VORG, will join the mornings panel
discussion and small groups breakout session to offer
insights into the resistance, pain and peace that can be
revealed in the redemption/ reconciliation process. The
men will also speak about how through their formation of
Inside/Out and collaboration with BAWAR (Bay Area
Women Against Rape), they are becoming positive
examples and practical support for other ex-offenders
returning to society.
The trailer from the documentary film, Doing Life by
Anne Rogers OHearn will be shown.
What began as an effort by producer/director Anne
Rogers OHearn to document the spiritual transformation
of some of the many Lifers she met who were routinely
denied parole, Doing Life is now slated to be a feature-
length documentary film that examines the conflicting
forces behind Californias broken and burgeoning prison
system and seeks to unite those in search of an inspired
solution.
As space is limited, please register now. The program fee
is $20 per person. For more details and online registration
