BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES
By Billie Barbash
Thanks again to all who supplied brand new
backpacks and school supplies for our friends at
Ritter House
.
Due to your generous donations we
were once again able to provide 26 brand new
backpacks and supplies enough to fill about 40
backpacks total!! A friend who was working there
on distribution day, was fortunate enough to be able
to witness the kids picking up their brand new
supplies. He said the grins, shrieks and giggles, as
they looked at their new things, told the whole story
of why we have done this for the past 5 years. Their
joy is ours to keep, for another school year!

KIDS KARNIVAL IS COMING!
Were gearing up for the Eighth Annual Kids
Karnival on Saturday, September 23rd, from Noon to
7pm. There will be games, prizes, food, fun and of
course a few new surprises!
This year Kids Karnival will feature a 22 foot
Giant Slide and the SS Jubilee, a 30 x 35 Pirate
Ship, that holds 15 to 20 people at a time! There
will also be a jump just for our littlest ones and a 24
foot Rock Climbing Wall. Its going to be our
biggest and best Kids Karnival yet! It will be a
great day of fun, fundraising and just hanging out
with friends and neighbors.
We will again be grilling juicy burgers, and hot
dogs, but new on the menu will be our dinner- only
specialties of BBQ Korean Spare Ribs, Teriyaki
Chicken (both over rice) and plates of Chicken
Chow Mien. Dont forget to enjoy a nice glass of
wine or icy cold beer from the tap, while youre at it,
too!
The Steering Committee has lots of great ideas and
plenty of enthusiasm, but we still need your help.
We are again asking for sponsorships of the food,
and rental items. We also need plenty of volunteers
for set-up, the games, food court, inflatables and
clean-up at the end of the day!
In an attempt to simplify the staffing process, we
will be asking individuals to Adopt a Booth to Chair
for the day, however, this year individuals will be
able to sign up directly for a shift at that booth. The
Chair will then call those people signed up to remind
them and oversee the set-up, staffing and clean-up of
their booth on the day of the Kids Karnival. As
always, kids are welcome to help. Middle school
and high chool students can work alone. Younger
kids must work with a parent. Those students
needing community service hours can fulfill them at
the Karnival while having a great time with their
friends. (Remember, we give double hours for
clean-up!)
If youd like to volunteer, sign up at Church or call
Billie Barbash at 459-2303.
So mark your calendars and tell your neighbors and
friends to come and be a part of the Eighth Annual
Kids Karnival!
