FROM OUR STEWARDSHIP CHAIR:
“Stewardship,” writes business leader Peter Block, “is to
hold something in trust for another. Historically,
stewardship was a means to protect a kingdom while
those rightfully in charge were away, or, more often, to
govern for an underage king. The underage king for us is
the next generation.” (Stewardship: Choosing Service
over Self-Interest)
In the Church, stewardship season is the time when we
“pass it on,” when we share our gifts to support our
community of faith. Stewardship is our commitment to
Redeemer, to help us thrive in our service to others during
the upcoming years. Who is it that we steward?
We steward our children and youth, by pledging
our service to their spiritual formation and their
future;
We steward ourselves by building a wise
community of elders who can pass on life
wisdom to the young;
We steward the Kingdom of God by having a
community in which to practice it;
We steward life by our prayers and ministry of
healing;
We steward truth in our love and care for one
another as we are;
We steward this beautiful piece of land that God
gave us.
We steward an ethic of generosity, of giving to
others and discovering the unexpected riches of
sharing.
It costs about $135,000 a year to run our church. We
receive very little outside help. We are in the process of
working prayerfully together to deepen our commitment
to being stewards of one another and we invite your help
and support. Commitment Sunday will happen on
November 19th. Watch for more news. Jay Luther
