Senior Warden’s Report:
Dear Redeemer Family,
I feel as if school has just started and before I can
say October 5 times it will be… October.  By the
time you all read this letter we will have had a very
successful Kids Karnival, thanks to all the support
from the congregation, and the herculean efforts of
Billie Barbash and Linda Fox.  Special thanks to
John Chung for revamping our menu and procuring
the Lion Dance team.  And special thanks to Betsy
Nakamura, and Eileen Erler, for all they do running
around buying, delivering, setting up and organizing
a million details. Also thanks to Gamin Thomason,
Rudy Erler, the bar- b-quers,  Rick and the set up
and take down committee. One more
time…
THANK YOU!
I hope everyone who wants say in what goes on at
Redeemer, turned in a survey.  That very important
document will help the Bishop’s Committee and
Rev. Carol lead Redeemer in ways the congregation
wishes to go.  Our goal is to choose what is most
important to the congregation and make those
desires come to fruition.
Looking back over a very busy month, some
highlights for our camping trip to Hendy Woods –
sooooo much fun. Special thanks to Mary Sparks
and Eileen Erler for organizing the event. Thanks to
Rudy Erler for providing kayaks and his expertise
for fun on the river. I also would like to thank him
for coaxing my finicky camp stove to work.  It is a
comforting feeling to go camping when you know
there are experts along who can answer questions
like, “If I pour the gas in with this valve closed will
this lantern explode?” I forget what the answer was,
but with camping experts, Eliot, Leisje, and Cody
Blank along, knowledge was just a campsite away.
Did I mention the food and entertainment?
We at Redeemer are foodies, and that is no less true
when we are camping. Rudy and Eileen provided us
with fresh caught abalone, a true gourmet delight.
Beside sharing wine and goodies (yes, smores too),
around the campfire Saturday night, we were
entertained by a Kids talent show, featuring the
middle school crowd, Rev. Lynn’s joke tellers,
Helen and Kelly, and the comedian Ryan Chung.
Kendra and Carl also entertained us with their
special charms.  Glenn Godbold plays a great folk
guitar and many great tunes from the past, if only
we could remember the words. Thank you Glenn for
sharing your talent.  And of course always
entertaining are Liz Chiarolla and her zany hats.
Thanks to her creativity she has a knack for making
meals and trips to the beach extra fun.  Thanks
honey
for your talent.  If you want to know what
that last sentence is about, ask the bees at Hendy
Woods.
With October nearly here, I hope everyone has a
colorful fall, a great soccer season, and a spooky
Halloween. Don’t forget to see the movie on Oct. 1
to check in with Mother Earth, and get your pets
blessed the following Sunday.  See you at the
Haunted Narthex.
Peace,
Cindy Poulos
p.s.
Thank you to all who have returned the
Congregational Surveys!
We will report back on
what you have told us.
CONGREGATIONAL CYCLE OF
PRAYER
October 1:
We pray for our earth. We give thanks for the
recycling ministry of the Garbarino family who have
turned what was once a dump into a treasure of
resources. We also give thanks for the tireless work
of all who, like Rudy Erler, recycle not only their
own stuff, but gather what others have cast off for
reuse.
October 8:
We pray for all the animals of the world, that we can
give to them as much as they so freely have given
us.
October 15:
We give thanks for the marriage of Jeff English and
Freddi Alagheband who are to be married this
afternoon beside the sea. We pray also for the
Women’s Spirituality Group of Redeemer as they
finish their annual retreat.
October 22:
We pray for our high school students that they may
use their gifts wisely in the service of truth and of
one another.
October 29:
In this season of All Hallows, we pray for all the
children of the world, that they might all be loved,
fed, and be able to grow into their dreams.
