SEEKING OUR SHEPHERD: Notes from Clergy Conference
During the 2005 Clergy Conference, held at Bishop’s Ranch from Tuesday, Sept 13 through Sept. 15, over 150 parish,
mission, school, hospital, prison and retired clergy people gathered to say good bye to our Bishop. His last teaching for us
was a discernment exercise about how we handle or do not handle conflict. It made all of us deeply aware how well Bishop
Swing has led all of us through times of conflict and change. He will go down in our Church’s history as a bridge builder who
consistently honored people more than positions.
During Advent, that rich conversation will come to Redeemer in a four week adult ed program
in which we will ponder what leadership both in world and church is all about as we select electing delegates for the May,
2006 election of a new bishop.
