NEWS FROM THE PEWS
We received an e-note from our former seminarian, Janet
Fullmer, who wrote: “I love getting the news-- and will
send a short bit to you later, I think, since Ron and I just
returned from the January medical mission to Haiti, and
I am now in the midst of the search for my first parish
placement as vicar or rector.  It's exciting, scary, and
feels as if God is both very distant and very present-- all
at once!” (Please see Janet’s report on Haiti a little
further along.)
Laurie Goodwin, a long-time former parishioner (now in
the East Bay) e-mailed, “I still want to get over there one
Sunday for a service when you and my other
‘girlfriends’ are not traveling. In the mean-time, thank
you for keeping me in the loop and please pass along my
love and best wishes to those ‘old-timers’ who
remember me.”
Congratulations to Max and Arlene Bushner, friends of
Sally and Joe Garbarino, who bought a Superbowl Pool
square at the Spaghetti dinner in January! They were the
only winners of our pool, winning the first-quarter’s
$100. As the other 3 quarter’s squares were not picked,
the church realized a profit of $740.00!
[Ed. note: Send me your news and gossip, folks!]

EXCERPTS FROM RON AND JANET FULLMER’S
REPORT ON THEIR JANUARY HAITI TRIP:
“We're back from another successful, tiring, rewarding
medical mission trip to Haiti, and we’d like to thank
everyone who supported us with medical supplies, funds
and especially prayers. Every trip to Haiti is unique, yet
many things seem to be constant - the hunger, poverty
and disease that we encounter, the love and faith of the
Haitian people, and the joy of reunion with our Haitian
friends. . .
We had an especially large group of people on this trip -
17 - and most were off to Haiti for their first time. On
Saturday, the 19th, we headed down the hill to rendez-
vous with our camion, which was a backup for one that
had broken down. This one was a little smaller and our
80 bags and 20 mattress pads filled it to the top of the
rails - the passengers on the camion would have a great
view, but would also be holding on to their precarious
perch with both hands. Port-au-Prince seemed both the
same - congestion, charcoal smoke, noise - yet different -
most of the traffic lights were working, traffic cops and
U.N. troops were everywhere and the streets were
'clean'. The first-timers, as well as us, got an eyeful as
we drove by the outskirts of City Soleil, along the river/
dump and headed out to the country side. . .
Unfortunately, the hospital has fallen into general dis-
repair and disuse - we used to send our 'emergency'
cases there, but not on this trip. The beautiful views of
the Caribbean belied the poverty that we were driving
through. . . a major part of the Haiti experience is com-
ing to terms with an entirely different culture and way of
living, and the enormous near-universal suffering of the
