Senior Wardens Letter
Rev. Mark Ruyak called as Interim Vicar
Much has happened these past few weeks. Bishop's
committee members received resumes and letters of
recommendation on several candidates for the position
of Interim Vicar. And, after due diligence, The Rev.
Mark Ruyak was called as Interim Vicar at Re-
deemer. We were delighted when he accepted our
invitation. We expect that Mark will be with us
throughout the process leading up to the time when we
call our next permanent Vicar. This is expected to be
twelve to eighteen months from now.
Youth Programs and Search Process
There are several areas where Mark will be of great
assistance to us that are beyond the usual Sunday
services and pastoral care. These include forming
programs for our youth and helping this parish identify
our "Parish Profile". That is the first stage of the search
process, when we each search our soul, heart and mind
to determine where Redeemer is, what is important and
to be retained, where we desire to grow and where we
desire to change.
Mark has had excellent experience beginning new
programs at Grace Cathedral and has also taken
courses related to interim work that prepared him for
this work with us.
Thank you to everyone who has put forth extra effort in
the past month in the areas that help our church grow,
and thrive. We will all be challenged as we move ahead.
Buildings and Grounds
Hot Water at Redeemer We finally have two new
point of service hot water heaters in the church - in the
Sacristy and in the bathroom! Many thanks to Greg
Poulos and Peter Levi Plumbing for making this
possible.
Spring is Sprung at Redeemer Special thanks to the
hardy souls who gathered on Saturday, March 29th to
prune, plant, weed, pull and mulch the planted areas of
our church grounds. The day began with an invitation to
coffee and donuts up at the preschool. (Thank you
Teresa!) Nick Clark had removed the last remnants of
the invasive bamboo with axe and shovel the day
before. We had a clean slate to introduce some new
plantings and include some of our extra clivia and iris in
the two borders at the front of the church. Also, prior to
the clean up day, Elliott Blank perched high on a ladder
at the rear of the church where he sanded the barge board
at the eaves. We invited the preschool workers to join us
for a lunch snack. It was a great community day!
Mulch available - free! We had the stump of the fallen
pine ground up recently. It's great mulch - FREE - first
comers get it!
Broken Window Our window was accidentally broken
by a flying stone during the stump-grinding process. It
will be replaced soon by Old Town Glass.
Holy Week and Easter
We were fortunate to have both Rev. Donald Schell and
Rev. Mark Ruyak with us to celebrate and preach at four
memorable services. Special thanks to our Altar Guild
members who cleaned and set up for the many additional
services. And to Ann Zolezzi, who produced all those
additional bulletins - many with new formats and
additions our thanks are not enough! The extra effort
put forth by everyone is very much appreciated.
